Musing from a relieved mind...

First off, it is done. I have deposited 5 copies of my Master's thesis in the office and I defend in 2 weeks. Strange... it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be.

On a seperate note, i just came inside from a good long harmonica session outside. I walked around playing tonight and had a real good time. Good tunes tonight. Several people happened by and told me they enjoyed it. I had a great time. I remembered on the way back in that one of my fondest memories is of a street musician. I was in Florence, Italy sitting in the window of a fifth floor apartment in the old city and the power was out. My friends and I lit candles and cooked spaghetti while we listened to a saxophone player somewhere around a corner. I've always remembered that.

I hope I can give that experience to someone.

Ok, time to go celebrate with my hot girlfriend.

30th Birthday party...

These are pictures from my 30th birthday party. We all had an absolute blast and everyone who came marveled at what a nice idea it was. I think it may be repeated next year... the art party, that is. I don't know exactly how many people hung art, but we had 3 large walls absolutely full. I would guess between 12 and 15 people hung from 1 to 4 pieces each. You can kinda see in the background of these shots. Katy says she has better ones so I'll post those later. Ok, off to studio.

Still catching up...

Hi all,

Time keeps marching on... further away from my India trip and ever closer to my thesis deadline. I turned in the draft of my thesis to Thomas last week and will get it back Monday... then a couple more days of edits and it's due on Friday. I started doing some minor revisions to my design yesterday and will spend much of the next 3 weeks at studio finishing a new set of graphics for my building. In all honesty, I think I have enough done already to graduate. Now it's a matter of doing a great job. Oh the pressure. I'm looking forward to getting away from the writing desk and back into studio one last time. It's tough thinking that this is the last I get to live of this lifestyle. I'll miss the constant creativity, the self-made hours, the life and energy of an architecture school, having my own (large) studio space, access to a full wood and metal shop, and the peerage (however thin sometimes) of students and professors surrounding me. I will miss this, indeed. As it stands, though, my final goal is well within site.

Ok, before I go, I'll throw some more pictures up. These are pictures from the beach resort we stayed at in Goa. We drove for 2 hours away from the heavily populated beaches and ended up in the middle of nowhere... also known as heaven. I'm pretty sure I've posted some of these pictures but what the heck.

This is what I awoke to every morning.

The water on the left of the beach is the Arabian Sea. The water on the right is a cool, fresh water lagoon fed from a spring in the hills.

I loved playing the harmonica on that beach.

The man on the right is Clement. He discovered the lagoon area just as it was about to be sold to a large developer. He convinced the owner not to sell (to tear up the contract, in fact) and instead to allow a resort to be built there. It's a small place with 10 huts, all handmade. It's being kept quiet and the outdoorsy type is being marketed to. He doesn't want to ruin the quietness with a bunch of tourists. The kid on the left is a local villager who lives at and runs the resort. I forget his name, but he was a perfect and gracious host.

This is a forest in Goa where they grow peppercorn (see the vines on the trunks of the trees?). We stayed one night here after the beach.

This tree almost killed the three people on the bench nearest us. I was sitting at the head of the table (right side of the picture) and with no outside force or provocation, the tree started falling. I heard the creak and looked over to see the tree slowly falling in such a way that is was going to take out the entire bench. I reached out and pushed with both hands as hard as I could and managed to move the tree just enough so that it missed the bench by inches. Three of us tried after it fell and it could not be moved. What a night... the night I was a hero.

Got photos posted!

Hi everyone,

Well, I have the first 70 photos posted but, since I don't have a paid account with Flickr, I'm going to have to wait to upload more. Gotta find a way around that. Anyway, here's a random sampling of what I've posted from the beginning of my trip. Click on any picture and it will take you to the full size image on my flickr page. From there you can browse the rest of the photos. Enjoy!

Made it home

Well, for once, I made it home without incident! They say all successful men have mothers who pray. So be it. I'm very, very glad to be home with katy. We had a great day yesterday and now it's straight back to work. I have azlot of pictures to go through so it will take me a few days to get them all up. Here's a few videos to start with. I'll post again soon.

It's good to be back.
